What they do

It is responsible for the transmission and management of power flows on the high-voltage (HV) and very high-voltage (VHV) grid throughout Italy, in order to guarantee a balance between demand and supply for energy (dispatching). It is also responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of the grid.It acts as the Italian TSO (Transmission System Operator), having been granted a monopoly under a government concession, and is subject to regulation by Italy’s Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment (ARERA) and the guidelines established by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. It ensures the security, quality and cost-effectiveness of the national electricity system and has the task of developing the grid and integrating it with the European grid. It ensures equal access for all grid users.
